Butch
was born in 1948 in Trail, B.C. The family moved to Swift Current,
Saskatchewan, when he was 4-years-old, which is where he grew up
and attended school. He was re-building small engines when he was
about 12-years-old, and at age 14, he bought his first bicycle for
two. When he was 16, he bought his first Harley which he re-built
and rode until he was about 19-years-old. The bike was sold because
he got married.
At age 16, Butch started an Apprenticeship program for welding
and worked in the oilfields of Saskatchewan and Alberta.
He's been married three times, has five children and three grandchildren.
His oldest son is 37-years-old and the youngest is 16-years-old.
Butch has been around drag strips and cars since the age of 16
and has a reputation of helping others build their cars.
In 1980, he bought his own car. He's also built and shown cars
at local car shows and has done well in that capacity. Butch loves
drag racing and continued to race cars until he he was 50-years-old
at which time his family talked him into buying another Harley instead
of a front engine dragster.
He drove his new Sportster very little until he started ripping
and re-building the bike to his specifications. He wanted more speed
and more power. Butch has done very well with his bikes, winning
more trophies and shows than what he did while drag racing. He was
hooked on bikes again.
Not
one to sit idle, he purchased a kit bike and had a great time with
it. He later sold it and starting selling more kits, later building
the Black Cloud. His Black
Cloud chopper won first
place at a local show and his dealer entered the bike in another
contest which he also won.
The bike was written up in the November, 2004 issue of Iron
Works magazine.
In October, 2004, Butch headed to a bike builders boot camp in
Las Vegas. He learned a lot more about the bike business and he
took a 37 hour crash course on bike building.
"Fear is the biggest culprit to all of our dreams. Beat it,
and life just gets a whole lot better.
My goal is to have everyone who can afford to buy a Harley, instead
buy a build-a-bike box of parts and give up 100 hours of your life
to build your own dream bike. All parts including engines, transmissions,
carbs, etc. come will full manufacturer warranties."
